The (fairly) big update

It’s been such a hectic time over the past three weeks. I have had masses to commit to a post but you know how it is, when it comes to actually writing it, something else takes its place. I really hate it when that happens, I get real urges to post things then by the time I sit down to, I seem to have lost the passion for it.

So, in a “big update” style I will try and cover a couple of things that have really bent me this month.

The Mac Vs PC debate

This one is really taking over, particularly at work. You see, to me, we are just using computers. For instance, at work I use a Mac Book for my Web Development and Print work and I have a desktop running XP for my Office based / Outlook shenanigans. The last time I checked they both had large processors; they both have flat panels, DVD Burners, Lots of memory, keyboards, mice, and operating systems.

Too many times these days do I hear “Oh you wouldn’t have those problems with a Mac”, “Oh you know what you need, a Mac”, “I don’t have these problems at home on my Mac”, “Ooh it’s white, is that a special kind of computer?” “If you get any more of those Apple stickers can I have them for my car? Work on a Mac, drive a Mac!”

I mean really, when is enough going to be enough on this subject? If I was being honest there is an attitude around Mac Fanboys (and girls). Rather than saying “I was at home on my computer surfing the Internet looking for holidays” people will say “I was surfing the net last night on my Mac”.

Now don’t get me wrong, there are pro’s and cons to both Operating systems and I genuinely don’t have a preference. Sure, there are certain Mac applications I prefer – Ilife and a few little things such as Twitterific. But nothing I 100% couldn’t find for the PC. I am 100% sure however that a white laptop is not the way forward, no matter how good my personal hygiene is you cannot keep a portable computer factory fresh.

Is it possible for us all to get a long and say we work with computers? As long as the job gets done isn’t that all that counts? I sit on the fence with this one; just stop bringing it to my attention.

People parking

How many times do I need to see someone clearly not disabled parking in a disabled place just so they don’t have to walk as far? You should be grateful you can walk!

Lamborghini LP640

Here is a photograph I took at the gym this week, if I’m not mistaken that’s a £190,000 Lamborghini LP640 parked very badly in a disabled by right by the front door of the gym. Surely if your going for a workout you can walk the extra 50mtrs? I really could left a note on this car (which I have done before, mainly at Sainsbury’s).

My life really isn’t all doom, gloom and rants. The training / gym thing is going really well, to the tune of me losing a stone and a half inside eight weeks. I also treated myself to a new Trek Hybrid bike so I can do some cardio on the weekends to.

Trek FX 7.2

Which incidentally, when I saw this sign:

Free Cupping

I seem to have got the term confused with something else. For I thought someone was going to sort out my saddle ache free of charge. Oh well, at least I didn’t go in and embarrass myself.

  1. Which is why me laddo… Linux is the answer :)

  2. The reason i switched to mac is mainly that all the pc’s i had, they always had something wrong with them…i was constantly fighting with my pc to get it to work, but the pcs were all custom built, by my local pc shop, who i think were big shifty micks. Another reason why i got my macs were purely out of an aesthetic nature. The final reason is that there are a ton of absolutely great apps which arent available on xp/vista…for example Aperture, Disco, Toast Titanium, Motion to name some…but in saying that theres one app that i miss greatly called Digital Fusion…that is probably my only gripe with my switch.

As with the **** who owns the lambo…you are a total ****…fair enough your enough of a **** taking that space, at least try and park it properly.

  3. You see, I am in a pretty good position as all my developemnt work and video editing is done on a Mac, all my office based work, Outlook and Calander is done on my desktop PC, maybe i should take a sneaky photograph.

The thorn in my side really lies with the people who preach Apple like a Vicar on judgement day. It really is too much.

What I am loving however is how I missed the word “****” out of my badwords text filter, I mean seriously, how the **** did that get through the net?

  4. Hey chap - hows tricks, been ages since I passed through here. Far too long. As you’ve probably seen, we’ve knocked the business on the head, it had it’s chance, gotta know when to give up floggin’ the horse. Anyway bud, I’m still about, just thought I’d say hi….

  5. Hey Mark, really really sorry to hear about your shop. You have had the confidence to call it a day though which is a positive thing. Keep it on the back burner, it’s a shame to waste such a good design and concept.

Maybe you should give your personal site a similar lick? Just so you can keep your hand in. Either way mate it’s good to hear from you.
