Beg, steal and borrow

Does anyone remember this old layout of mine - Aimzter. You see, if your going to steal graphics, layout and other items of personal content it would only be polite to take out my name and website of the CSS file. Feel free to have a look for yourselves: aimzter.css

Thanks to my mate Tek for the heads up.

  1. No problems matey. It’s been done to me a few times.

Perhaps everyone should leave her a nice comment? :)

  2. Heya, i love your site… i think its awsome.. maybe she did is as well..

I had this done as well somebody copied all of my site once.. but i later contacted them, and spoke with them and actually we are quiet good friends now and have been for a few years… he copied my old domain and after getting to the bottom of it, i realised that he was doing it because he wanted to learn and upped my site so he could make his own changes to an already existing code, which made it easier for him.. have you tried speaking with her insted of ridculing her like this? sure you designed your little heart out, but from what i saw before she took it down she had already started making changes to it.. Just some food for thought..

I didnt think you would be so crytical..

  3. Kelly,

Im not over bothered about the design, but she copied most of my “100 about thing”, the “about page” , my “links list”.

She took all the site AND the content, just changing the odd word here and there.

I will upload the old version of my site so people can see :)

  4. I know what you mean its annoying, but i think the biggest problem these days is that everyone is so crytical of people she obviously liked your design for whatever reasons, and copied it, i saw what changes she had made. i also saw how long ago it was that she made changes. i dont believe she had really tried to hide the fact that she copied it. seriously she added a few things here and there i think its worth your while speaking wih her. when my site was copied i looked at it in a total different perspective as i normally would now the fellow who copied it is a true friend of mine. Good Luck

  5. Kelly,

I’m not sure what you do for a living but I am a developer and stealing designs (essentially my work, note: this is Neil’s design nothing to do with me but allow me to make my point) would mean someone would be stealing my livelihood.

Plagiarism, in my book, isn’t something to feel flattered by at all, especially without permission and even more so when it’s literally the whole site. The flattery side of things is a misconception on the part of those people that admire, rather than toil making, designs or need there ego’s stroked. It’s an invasion of artistic application to steal it, do you think the world would agree with someone copying a Monet and trying to claim it as the real deal? Or taking Mozart’s music and claiming as there own written piece, certainly not!

What makes a logo, a design, layout or system any different?

Sorry, I just don’t agree with people nicking work regardless of the intention.

  6. I think there’s a couple of fundamental issues here. First off, there’s the issue of copying, which I feel is ok, as long as the credit is given to the individual that you’re copying from, AND you don’t stand to earn money from it. BUT, as tek says, for those that make their living from design, if people are nicking it, not giving the credit, AND trying to make dosh from it, then that’s where I’d draw the line and say NOOOOOOooooooo that’s blatently wrong. (unless you’re in the music industry of course). But remember folks, these are just my views, and not the views of the hardcore designers that feel they’re losing out because people are copying their wonderful designs.

  7. That sucks just about as much as people stealing my ACTUAL POSTS.

  8. I am almost certain you were copying some Karate moves from my wide selection today. Give me some credit Woo ping Neil

  9. Someone stole my bio. They have it up on a http://www.hi5.com site. I know her in person, I said it was interesting that she has the same bio as I. She didn’t deny it, she said she’d take it down. It’s still up and it’s bothering meeee
